If you are unsure, start at 1 FPS. You can always re-run the extraction at a higher rate – it costs nothing and takes seconds.
JPG uses lossy compression, so files are dramatically smaller. At high quality settings the artifacts are invisible to the eye, making JPG the right default for reference images, datasets, and sharing.
PNG is lossless: every pixel matches the decoded frame exactly. Choose PNG when you plan to edit the frames, run measurements on them, or feed them into pipelines where compression artifacts could skew results. Expect files roughly five to ten times larger than JPG.
Most online converters ask you to upload your video to a server. That is slow, and it means your footage – which might be confidential research, unreleased product video, or personal memories – sits on someone else's machine.
